The Meeteetse Museums strives to make its collections accessible for all museum visitors. If you have specific needs for your museum visit, please call us (307) 868-2423 or email us at programs@meeteetsemuseums.org
Accessible Entrance & Facilities
The entrance to the Meeteetse Museum is ADA-accessible. Our downstairs exhibits may be accessed by the motorized chair lift. The chair lift must be supervised by a member of our staff so please let us know at the front desk. All restrooms are wheelchair accessible.
Parking
The Museum does not have a designated, public parking lot. Street parking is available on both State Street and Park Avenue. There is an access ramp on Park Avenue just before the alley by the main museum. Parking does not have a time limit.
Sensory Information
The Museum has track and natural lighting. There are exhibits with motion-detection track lighting. These include both basement exhibits and the “Made in Meeteetse: The Black-Footed Ferret” exhibit in the far back of main level.
When entering the Museum there is a soundtrack of western music playing on a loop. In the “Made in Meeteetse: The Black-Footed Ferret” exhibit there is a video explaining how the last black-footed ferret was captured for the captive breeding program. This is currently the only video with sound in the Museum. If you or someone in your group is sensitive to noise, please let us know and we can turn off soundtracks.
Social Story
Social stories are guides to help prepare individuals with autism for social interaction, public events, and public spaces.

Tactile Elements
The museum is working to increase the number of tactile elements (e.g. touchable artifacts, reproductions, models) in our museum. We are also working to have fidgets available to guests during their visit.
Wheelchairs
The Museum has two wheelchairs available for guest-use. To use one of the wheelchairs, please inquire at the front desk. For individuals who need to sit more frequently, there are benches in our Belden movie theatre, in the Meeteetse Mercantile exhibit in front of our staff office, and in the Olive Fell gallery. If you need seating in any other exhibit spaces, please let our staff know.
Service Dogs
Service dogs are welcome. Service dogs must be on a non-retractable physical leash that is less than six feet in length. Each visitor may only have one service dog. Per the U.S. Department of Justice’s ADA requirements for service dogs, the dog must be trained to provide assistance to a person with a disability. Visitors are not allowed to bring emotional support animals into the Museum.
If you have visited our museum and have suggestions to improve accessibility, please let us know.
