Interested in donating or loaning an item to the Meeteetse Museums? If you have an item that relates to Meeteetse and the surrounding area (please see map below for geographic references) that may be of interest, please contact the Museum’s Director of Collections, Alexandra Deselms, at 307-868-2423 or collections@meeteetsemuseum.org.

Items may be accepted into our collections if they meet the criteria for acceptance and are accepted by the Meeteetse Museums’ Collections Committee.

Please do not drop off items without permission from the Director of Collections. Items dropped off without permission and information on their use and history are limited or no value to the story of Meeteetse that we share through our collections; without permission and information, items may be destroyed or otherwise disposed of.

2027 Moratorium on Acquisitions

Thank you for your interest in donating an artifact to the Meeteetse Museums collection.

The Meeteetse Museums has enacted a Temporary Moratorium for collections acquisitions beginning January 1, 2027 and is not accepting gifts to its collection. This is a large endeavor and necessary to provide proper care for items in our collection. The mission of the Meeteetse Museums is to promote discovery and learning by collecting, preserving, and interpreting Meeteetse’s natural, cultural, and artistic heritage. Over the years, the collections have grown to include items that fall outside the Meeteetse Museums’ mission, limiting storage space and care and potentially weakening the second floor of our Bank Museum.

The purpose of the Moratorium is to refine collections, assess the needs going forward, and refocus resources on items that meet the museums’ mission. Once complete, staff of the Meeteetse Museums will be able to better allocate facilities and resources for the security and preservation of all collection items falling within the museums’ mission.

Limited Exceptions

We invite you to complete the linked Application to the Permanent Collection so that your artifacts may be considered for addition to the permanent collection when the Moratorium is concluded. In very limited instances for artifacts of significant historical importance, exceptions to the collections Moratorium may be made.
