Join the Meeteetse Museums on June 29th for a tour of the Legend Rock State Petroglyph Site with Dr. Julie Francis! Legend Rock is a 1,312 feet near-vertical cliff with more than 92 petroglyph panels and over 300 petroglyph figures, a unique visit made more impactful with expert interpretation from Dr. Francis.
This tour is limited to two groups of 10 people; pre-registration is required. The first tour will tentatively be at 9:30 AM and the second at 11 AM. Registration will open to Meeteetse Museum VIP Members on April 16th at 10 AM and the general public April 30th at 10 AM. Register by calling (307)868-2423 or by stopping by the Museum in person. A bit of information on our speaker, Dr. Francis was the Wyoming State Archaeologist for nearly 15 years and holds the position of archaeologist for the Wyoming Department of Transportation. She currently teaches adjunct at the University of Wyoming in the Anthropology Department. Dr. Francis co-authored the book “Ancient Visions: Petroglyphs and Pictographs of the Wind River and Bighorn Country, Wyoming and Montana” with Dr. Larry Loendorf, who led our Legend Rock tour in 2022. In addition, she has contributed numerous articles to journals like American Antiquity and Plains Anthropologist.
